WILLIAM K. BOARDMAN (1915-1993). Papers; ca. 1940-1985. 20.2 cu. ft.

William Boardman was born in Iowa in 1915. He attended Grinnell College and graduated from Drake University. He became an investment banker in Iowa but joined the Coast Guard in World War II. After the war, he became involved in business in Alaska, becoming an insurance underwriter in 1950. He served in the territorial and state legislatures (1953-1955, 1961-1971) and was Speaker of the House (1968-1969). He married Genie Chance in 1971.

The collection consists of personal and business papers of William Boardman. There are three series: Personal and Political Papers; Insurance Papers; and duplicate Papers. The personal papers, the largest portion of the collection, include materials on his political career and legislative activities. They are arranged chronologically and thereafter by subject. The business papers are arranged by enterprise. The insurance firm papers are closed.

The collection was presented to the archives by William Boardman in 1986. The deed of gift was signed that year.
