The collection consists of a copy of an unpublished official Army history (author unknown) entitled "The Story of the Alaska Communications System, 1900-1943." It covers the period from the first development of the Washington-Alaska Military Cable and Telegraph System (WAMCATS - later changed to the Alaska Communications System) to the completion of the Alaska Highway Telephone Line. It includes over 50 appendices including route maps, magazine and newspaper articles, Congressional acts, charts on income and expenditures, lists of Chief Signal Officers, and officers in charge of the system, a systems diagram, list of radio stations, and other information.
The collection was loaned to the archives for copying by Lyman Woodman in 1982.
