INTERNATIONAL UNION FOR CIRCUMPOLAR HEALTH. TENTH INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS ON CIRCUMPOLAR HEALTH. Proceedings Editorial Committee Records; 1996-1998. 2 cu. ft.

The International Union for Circumpolar Health (IUCH) is an international, non-governmental, non-profit organization involved in international collaboration, cooperation, and communication between health scientists, practitioners, administrators, policy makers, and the people of the circumpolar nations. The IUCH was established, in concept, during a health science meeting at the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1967. Since that event, medical scientists in the circumpolar regions have been collaborating on arctic research through triennial International Congresses on Circumpolar Health. The IUCH was formally established in 1981 at the Fifth International Congress on Circumpolar Health, held in Copenhagen, Denmark. The organization's objectives, within its field, are to promote international cooperation, encourage and support research and exchange of scientific information, promote public awareness, and facilitate communication with other relevant organizations. The Tenth International Congress on Circumpolar Health, held in Anchorage, Alaska on May 19-24, 1996, was sponsored by the IUCH, and hosted by the American Society for Circumpolar Health (ASCH). The proceedings of the congress were published by the ASCH in Anchorage in 1998. Editorial committee members for the publication included Robert Fortuine and George A. Conway (senior editors); Cynthia D. Schraer, Michael J. Dimino, and Carl M. Hild (editors); and Juli Braund-Allen (text editor).

The collection consists of editorial committee records used in producing the published proceedings of the Tenth International Congress on Circumpolar Health. The collection is divided into three series: general editorial records, manuscripts of papers, and backup computer disks for those manuscripts. The general editorial records include lists of papers for publication, an abstract indexing record, notes on paper management and scoring, instructions for submission of papers, a congress program, congress abstracts of papers, a congress participation list, and a copy of the published proceedings. The 155 manuscripts of papers consist of files for each paper included in the published proceedings, which generally include a cover sheet, any letters concerning the manuscript, and a copy of the paper. These manuscripts are arranged in alphabetical order by first author, as well as numerically by abstract number, except for those with abstract numbers 500-516. The last five papers in the series were received too late for publication. The backup computer disks were submitted to the editorial committee along with the paper copies of the manuscripts.

The collection was presented to the archives by Carl M. Hild in 2001.
