Evangeline Atwood (1906-1987), a resident of Anchorage since 1935, wrote several books on Alaska politics and history and was very active in Anchorage and Alaska civic affairs. She was married to Robert Atwood, publisher and editor of the Anchorage Times, with whom she co-owned the newspaper. Lew M. Williams, Jr., a longtime Alaska journalist, is the former publisher of the Ketchikan Daily News. The writing project was begun by Evangeline Atwood, who turned it over to Lew Williams shortly before her death in 1987.
This collection consists of copies of the manuscript and project records for a history of Alaskan newspapers entitled "Bent Pins to Chains: Alaska and its Newspapers." The collection contains two series: the manuscript and the project records. The project records consist of a transmittal letter, notes, correspondence, and copied documents arranged by subject.
This collection was presented to the archives by Lew M. Williams, Jr in 2003.
