ALICE WRAN (1894-1972). Photograph Album; 1917-1948. .2 cu. ft.

Alice Wran's family was from Colorado. Her maiden name was probably Doody. She married Warren K. "Pop" Wran and came to Alaska in the mid 1930s. Warren Wran mined for gold on Klery and Jack Creeks, north of Kiana on the Kobuk River, in the mid to late 1930s. He was also involved in placer mining at Candle. Born in Michigan in 1891, Wran came to Alaska in 1935, and built a cabin on Klery Creek. He also worked on construction of the Alaska Highway, and was a riverboat engineer on Tanana River sternwheelers. Later in his life, Wran remarried and worked as a diesel mechanic in Anchorage, where he died in 1975. Alice Wran died in Herlong, California, in 1972.

The collection consists of the photograph album of Alice Wran. The collection contains the original 88-page album with 251 black and white photographs, along with 48 copy negatives. Subjects of the photographs include friends and family in Oregon, Washington, California, Colorado, Wyoming, Alabama, Kentucky, and British Columbia. Photographs from Alaska primarily document placer gold mining operations at Klery and Jack Creeks north of Kiana, and at Candle.

The collection was acquired by the archives in 2003.
