Among those invited to the area were Robert Shaw, Julius Hereford, John Westman, and Robert Gerle. Mary Hale was the Executive Director of the Festival until 1962. Julius Hereford served as co-director from 1956 to 1963. In addition to Robert Shaw, the Festival has been directed by others including Alan Lennom, Robert Fountain, and Donald Johanos. On at least four occasions in its musical history, the Festivals featured the first performance of a musical composition.
