Collection summary: Proof of labor certificates for a miner who worked on a claim off the Snake River in the Nome Mining District.

Biographical note:
J.R. Dickenson provided labor on gold claims in the Nome Mining District of Alaska during 1900 and 1901. He worked the White mining claim, located east of the Wellington claim, north of the Snake River, about one mile from that river’s mouth near the Wild Goose Railroad. During 1900, Dickerson performed $150 worth of labor with George W. Rider, which included sinking prospect shafts and digging prospect trenches. In October of 1901, Dickenson performed $100 worth of labor digging and prospecting.

Collection description:
The collection consists of legal documents for proof of labor for work done by J.R. Dickenson at the White mining claim in the Nome Mining District. The collection contains: Dickenson and George W. Rider’s proof of labor certificate, dated November 27, 1900; Dickenson’s proof of annual labor certificate, dated December 24, 1901; and a receipt for a document filed for J.R. Dickenson by T.M. Reed, Recorder, Cape Nome Precinct, dated October 14, 1905. The 1900 document is signed by J.R. Dickenson, George W. Rider, and George A. Verge (notary public for the District of Alaska at Nome). The 1901 document is signed by J.R. Dickenson and notary George A. Verge.
