Organizational history:
The Alaska Department of Health provided health-care services to some coastal residents of western Alaska through vessels known as the “floating clinics.” The M/S or M/V Hygiene was one of those ships.
Collection description:
The collection consists of five logbooks from the Hygiene. These include information about ports of call, repairs done on the ship, and the ship’s schedule.
Arrangement: The logbooks are in chronological order.

Custodial history: The log books were held by the University of Alaska Fairbanks BioSciences Library. They were transferred to the Alaska and Polar Regions collections of the Rasmuson Library.
Acquisition note: The logbooks were transferred to Archives and Special Collections along with the Alaska Nurses’ Association collection from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, Rasmuson Library, Alaska and Polar Regions Collections. As the logbooks had not yet been incorporated into the Nurses’ Association collection at the time of their transfer, they were accessioned separately into their own collection at Archives and Special Collections.
