What not to do when applying for library jobs
One of my professors posted this to the SLIS list-serv. Having served on numerous staff and faculty hiring committees, I have to say I see a lot of fantastic advice here!

The article mentions informational interviews and although I can’t say I got a position from one, they have been so helpful in gathering information and creating a network of contacts.
In the comments after the article, one person wrote that she was not having any luck even getting any informational interviews. Maybe it’s the terminology (an “interview”) or the field she’s in, but everyone I spoke with has been more than happy to talk with me. I didn’t ask for an “informational interview” however. I said I was interested in learning more about becoming a (insert type of librarian) and would they have some time to talk to me about what they do.
