Pros and Cons of Metasearch

In Summer 2008, the UAA/APU Consortium Library purchased a metasearch product called 360 Search from Serials Solution. Metasearch provides a way for students, faculty, and staff to search across multiple library catalogs and subscription databases from a single search interface. This session will cover how metasearch works, implementation issues, and what have been the successes and failures.

So you want to spruce up your tired old library catalog, but can’t afford Aquabrowser? This session will cover ideas and techniques to make over your existing library catalog so it is more user friendly.

From Citation to Full Text

In Summer 2005, the UAA/APU Consortium Libary purchased the Gold Rush Electronic Resource Management with an OpenURL link resolver from BCR. The resolver provides a way for students, faculty, and staff to discover the full text of articles across the library’s electronic collections. This session will cover how the resolver works, implementation issues, and what have been the successes and failures.

Why Pay Money for It?

There are a lot of great open source applications that are perfect for libraries. This session will cover a range of software packages from nifty tools for the reference desk to jazzing up your website with blogs, wikis, forums, etc. These are applications that anyone can use. No geek talk! Well, maybe a little.
