Alan G. May papers
Appendix A: List of photographs in personal journals from the archaeological expeditions of the Smithsonian Insitution to the Aleutian Islands, 1936-1938

Note: Photographs numbers below correspond to their locations in the original journals, either mounted on the reverse sides of pages with typed journal entries, or between those typed pages. For example, four photographs mounted on the reverse of page 50, would be numbered, 50a, 50b, 50c, and 50d, and addition images on separate pages before page 51, would be numbered 50e, 50f, 50g., etc. The ordering of photographs on a particular page are generally top to bottom and left to right. May’s own typed captions are as they appear in the journals, except for commercial photos or photo post cards, where the captions are as they appear on the photo or post card. Any added descriptions are placed in parentheses. Misspellings of place names in May’s original captions have been corrected for reasons of clarity and ease of searching. Quotations marks in May’s original captions refer to quotes from his journal entries. All photographs are black and white, with sizes provided after the caption in parentheses.
