Collection summary: Photographs taken by a civilian employee who set up data processing equipment to operate a BMEWS sight at Clear Air Force Station.

Biographical note:
Bud Gilmore was a civilian employee for a data processing firm, possibly IBM, which set up the equipment to operate the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS) at Clear Air Force Station, in 1961. The system at Clear became operational in 1961.

Collection description:
The collection contains the personal color slides of Bud Gilmore, primarily of Clear Air Force Station, taken in 1961. Subjects of the slides include: various facilities at Clear Air Force Station including three large radar antennas; men setting up data processing equipment; computing, data processing, and power generating equipment; men recreating by playing cards and other activities; people at a formal party; a sled and dog team; scenery at Denali National Park; a bear feeding at a landfill; and small aircraft. The IBM 7090 Data Processing System is shown prominently in the slides.
