Biographical note:
Maurice D. Anderson was from Boone, Iowa. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps on October 27, 1943. Anderson trained at Sheppard Field, Texas, and Jefferson Barracks, Missouri. He was stationed at Elmendorf Field at Fort Richardson, Alaska, with the 54th Troop Carrier Squadron in March or April of 1944. Anderson served at Elmendorf Field until at least September of 1945. Maurice Anderson died in Boone, Iowa, in 2001.

Collection description:
The collection contains twelve letters written to, from, or about Maurice Anderson during his military service. The first letter is from the pastor of the Grand Avenue Methodist Temple in Kansas City, Missouri, to Anderson’s parents, and mentions his attendance at a church service. Another letter is from Anderson at Fort Sheppard, Texas, to his parents in Iowa. Three letters are from Anderson during training at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri, to his parents. Two letters were written by Anderson’s mother to her son, which were delivered to Fort Richardson. Four letters were written by Anderson to his parents while he was stationed at Elmendorf Field, Fort Richardson. The final letter is from a friend, Pfc. Earl F. Singer, serving somewhere in Europe, to Anderson at Elmendorf Field.
