Biographical note:
The U.S. Air Force airman who created this photograph album was an aircraft mechanic with the 375th Weather Squadron who served at Ladd Field, Fairbanks, Alaska, in 1948. He was an aircraft mechanic. The squadron, also known as the 375th Reconnaissance Squadron V.L.R. (Very Long Range) Weather, flew WB-29 aircraft over the North Pole and down to Japan. The 375th was transferred from Ladd Field to the newly completed Eielson Air Force Base in the spring of 1949, where it was the first operational squadron there. The squadron was later replaced by the 58th Reconnaissance Squadron (Medium, Weather) in early 1951.

Collection description:
The collection consists of the photograph album of an aircraft mechanic in the 375th Weather Squadron who served at Ladd Field, Fairbanks, Alaska, in 1948. The album contains 145 black and white prints. Subjects of the photographs include: airmen and aircraft at Ladd Field in Fairbanks; reindeer; sled dog races, a parade, and a beauty contest during the winter carnival in Fairbanks; a visit to Ladd Field from General Major Forslev of Denmark; construction of airfield buildings; airmen and aircraft at Great Falls Air Force Base in Montana; flights over Mount McKinley and British Columbia; airmen and aircraft at an airfield in Edmonton, Alberta; and a flight to a rural Alaska village. Aircraft models depicted include the B-36, C-47, WB-29, and PBY 2-4.
