Organizational history:
James E. Fullerton came to the Iditarod, Alaska area in 1908, shortly after the first gold strikes in the Innoko Mining District. He started a grocery store in the Dikeman area, which he later moved to the town of Flat. James Fullerton married in Seattle, Washington, and brought his wife Anna back to live in Flat. The Fullertons had two sons, John and Richard. The name of James Fullerton’s store in Flat was Fullerton’s General Merchandise Store. After James Fullerton died in 1925, Anna Fullerton sold the store to Harry Donnelley and Harry Sheppard of Donnelley and Sheppard General Merchandise. Mrs. Fullerton then worked as the post mistress in Flat until the family moved to Seattle, Washington, in 1933.

Collection description:
The collection consists of business records of James E. Fullerton General Merchandise in Flat, Alaska. The collection contains: a receipt book for purchases from the store, and several freight bills, accounts, and letters concerning store business with local freight operator Ira F. Wood.
