Organizational history:
Harry Donnelley and Harry Sheppard, businessmen of the mining town of Flat, Alaska, formed a partnership to operate a general store in 1921. Harry Donnelley, a businessman with a wide range of mining and other interests in Flat and Iditarod, partnered with Harry Sheppard, the U. S. Marshal of Flat. Donnelley had previously purchased their original store in Flat from C. R. Peck. The partners then expanded the business with the purchase of Fullerton’s General Merchandise Store in 1925. In 1924, their store burned in a fire involving several buildings in the town’s business district, after which they reopened in temporary quarters until a new building was completed in 1927. That new building housed the store and the Miners and Merchants Bank, owned by Donnelley, which he had relocated from Iditarod, Alaska.
