Biographical note:
Evelyn and Frelin Grimes were from Fresno, California. In September 1969, the couple went on a tour of Southeast Alaska. Their round trip began on September 9th on the Canadian National Railway’s S.S. Prince George from Vancouver, B. C. to Skagway, Alaska. Their tour included stops in Prince Rupert, Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Wrangell, and Alert Bay, along with a trip on the White Pass and Yukon Railway from Skagway to Whitehorse. The couple returned home to Fresno on September 17th. Frelin Grimes died in Fresno, California, in 1985.

Collection description:
The collection consists of the contents of the tourist scrapbook of Evelyn and Frelin Grimes, who visited Southeast Alaska in 1969. The collection contains: a passenger list for the September 9th sailing of the S.S. Prince George; travel brochures and maps; trip tickets, receipts and other memorabilia; S.S. Prince George menus (September 10-16); and 44 color photo post cards. The travel brochures include those for Canadian National Railway’s Alaska cruises, Mendenhall Glacier, the Chapel by the Lake at Auke Bay, the White Pass and Yukon Railway, and the town of Wrangell. The maps include those for the White Pass and Yukon Railway (paper place mat) and the city of Prince Rupert. Subjects of the post cards include: the S.S. Prince George; street scenes, aerial views, buildings, totem poles and other scenery in Ketchikan, Juneau, Mendenhall Glacier, Auke Bay, Skagway, Wrangell, Petersburg and Prince Rupert; and scenery along the White Pass and Yukon Railway.
