Biographical note:
Calvin and Doris Orr were from Wheaton, Kansas. In 1989, the couple took a travel trailer tour to Alaska and the Yukon Territory via the Alaska Highway. The traveled with the Alaska Adventure Caravan from July 15th to September 12th. Stops on their tour included: Abilene, Kansas; Estes Park, Colorado; Custer Battlefield National Monument, Montana; Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, Wyoming; Seattle, Washington; Athabasca Glacier and Edmonton, Alberta; Tok, Delta Junction, North Pole, Fairbanks, Denali National Park, Valdez, Palmer, Eklutna, Anchorage, Portage Glacier, Anchor Point, Homer, Seward, Skagway and Juneau, Alaska; Whitehorse and Dawson City, Yukon Territory; and Dawson Creek, Toad River Lodge, Cambpell River, Mackenzie, Prince Rupert and Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Calvin Orr died in Wheaton, Kansas, in 1990. Doris Orr died in Onaga, Kansas in 2006.

Collection description:
The collection consists of the contents of the 1989 tourist scrapbook of Calvin and Doris Orr. The contents were removed from the original scrapbook. The collection contains: original photographs as well as photo postcards; certificates; newspaper clippings and publications; memorabilia including programs, tickets, coasters, stickers, fliers, place mats, menus, licenses, and business cards; travel brochures; and three pressed plants. Subjects of the original photographs include a caravan party in August of 1989, and the Old Faithful Inn in 1988. The post cards are from several stops on their trip. The certificates include those from a Yukon River tour on the M.V. Schwatka (Cheechako First Class), Yukon Territory in Dawson City (Honorary Sourdough), the end of the Alaska Highway at Delta Junction (Delta Chamber of Commerce), and completion of the Alaska Adventure Caravan. The travel brochures are from stops on their trip and include those for towns, museums, parks, tours, and historic sites. The pressed plants include Canadian Aspen leaves, Alaskan wild cranberry, and Indian Paint Brush from British Columbia.

Separated materials: Due to mold, two of the pressed plants were removed from the collection, however a colored scan of the originals are available in the collection.

Acquisition note: The collection was purchased via Internet auction in 2006.

Processing information: The collection originally arrived to Archives as a scrapbook. The scrapbook was dismantled, photographs, and papers were removed and rearranged, and the collection was described by Jeffrey Sinnott in 2007. The guide to the collection was converted to current standard by Veronica Denison in 2015.
