Biographical note:
Eric Wohlforth is an attorney based in Anchorage, Alaska. Before moving to Alaska in 1966, he graduated with a law degree from the University of Virginia in 1957 and practiced law with the firm of Hawkins, Delafield & Wood in New York City. His initial experience with Alaska was working on a lawsuit following the 1964 earthquake, and in 1967 he helped to found the firm of Wohlforth Brecht & Cartledge in Anchorage. Wohlforth served as the Alaska Commissioner of Revenue from 1970 to 1972 and invested $900 million in state receipts from oil lease sales. He sat on the Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation Board of Trustees from 1995 to 2006. Most recently, he has served as the chair of the University of Alaska Foundation Investment Committee and on the Alaska Pacific University Board of Trustees.

Collection description:
The collection contains research files pertaining to the 1964 Alaska earthquake for his article “Financing 1964 Alaska Earthquake Recostruction: LBJ, Egan, and Congress” which appeared in the Fall 2014 issue of Alaska History. The research files include newspaper clippings and other articles and legislative documents, drafts, notes and interviews. The collection also includes materials relating to the financing of the Alaska pipeline that Wohlforth collected during his time as Commissioner of Revenue, including clippings, proposals regarding pipeline financing and ownership, litigation, and hearings on proposed pipeline legislation.

Arrangement: Collection materials are arranged in the order in which they arrived at the Archives.
